Beth Shalom Synagogue
Beth Shalom Synagogue, also known as El Patronato, is the largest Jewish congregation in Cuba. Construction began in 1951, and it officially opened in 1955. Originally founded by Ashkenazi Jews in Havana as an Orthodox synagogue, it now belongs to a Conservative congregation and welcomes all Jews, regardless of their background.
The synagogue's facilities include:
- The synagogue for religious services
- A social hall for lunches, dinners, and community activities
- The Marcus Matterin Library
- A Youth Center
- A community pharmacy
- Classrooms for the Machon Albert Einstein Jewish Sunday School
Formerly, it also included a kosher restaurant and a theater for festive events, but these facilities were sold in the 1980s to the Cuban Ministry of Culture due to the community's lack of resources to maintain them. Despite the difficult reality facing Cuban society these days, the Beth Shalom Synagogue works diligently to contribute as much as possible to the well-being of all Cuban Jews.
The synagogue's address is: Calle I between 13th and 15th Streets, Vedado, Havana.
